Arrow Electronics Launches Managed Storage Service to Boost Bull Case

Arrow Electronics has launched a managed storage service for NetApp Keystone, becoming the first distributor to offer this Storage-as-a-Service solution.

A Strategic Shift to Services

This move marks a significant expansion of Arrow’s high-margin services portfolio, targeting channel partners and managed service providers seeking a fully managed enterprise storage lifecycle solution built on NetApp technology.

The Technical Reality

By packaging NetApp Keystone capacity, lifecycle management, and support into a single managed service, Arrow aims to simplify storage operations for its customers. This aligns with the company’s broader strategy of supplying infrastructure building blocks to manufacturers, service providers, and large IT users who prefer outsourced capacity over owning assets outright.

The Detail That Matters

Arrow’s new managed storage service is a key part of its push into higher-margin services, which already contribute about 30% of segment operating income. However, the proof of this strategy’s success lies in the margins of its ECS (Engineering and Computer Systems) segment. Investors should watch the next few quarters of ECS non-GAAP operating margin and any restructuring charges to gauge whether this services push is adding resilience or merely replacing one set of pressured contracts with another.

Revenue Growth and Earnings Momentum

Arrow Electronics has a history of exceeding Wall Street’s expectations. Last quarter, the company reported revenues of $9.99 billion, up 31.8% year-on-year, beating analysts’ estimates. This quarter, the market expects revenue to grow 30.5% year-on-year, an improvement from the 13% increase in the same quarter last year.

Competitive Positioning

Arrow’ss peers in the engineered components and systems segment, such as NN and Enpro, have already reported strong Q3 results, with NN delivering year-on-year revenue growth of 26.2% and Enpro reporting revenues up 22.4%. This bodes well for Arrow’s upcoming earnings report.

What Investors Should Watch

As Arrow leans further into services, investors should focus on the ECS margins and the company’s ability to maintain profitability while reworking older contracts. The upcoming earnings report will be crucial in assessing the success of this strategic shift. With an average analyst price target of $235, compared to the current share price of $207.43, Arrow Electronics is one towatch closely as it navigates this transition.
