Baby on board? Keep an eye on them with this new gadget

NEW YORK, September 24 — A wireless camera system that lets parents keep an eye on a baby or toddler in the backseat without turning around or angling the rearview mirror has drawn a warm review from tech author Marc Saltzman, who tested the Babyvue BV6 in his wife’s GMC Yukon XL Denali.

The review, published September 23, describes the BV6 as a two-part setup: a wireless camera that clamps onto the vertical bars of a seat’s headrest and points at a child facing forward or backward, paired with a color monitor that mounts on the dashboard or windshield so a parent can glance at it from the front seat. Saltzman used friends’ four-year-old son as his test subject.

What the reviewer liked

Setup was simple, he writes. He charged the camera by plugging it into a laptop’s USB-A port for several hours, then installed the camera and monitor in the SUV. Video quality and speed held up surprisingly well, even at night.

He also called the included travel pouch with a handle a nice addition. The BV6 is sold at Amazon for one hundred nineteen dollars and ninety-nine cents, and Babyvue.com offers free U.S. shipping.

The company sent a review unit that arrived quickly. Buyers can choose an all-black camera bar or one with orange accents, and for ten dollars more they can swap the adhesive mount for a suction-cup version, which Saltzman notes is ideal for switching between vehicles.

Where it falls short

The screen scratches easily. The monitor requires power, and its cables can get messy. The horizontal camera bar has no battery and there is no charging plug for it.

Saltzman also found the pale-yellow packaging cheap and unattractive, reminding him of a generic box from a Temu or Shein purchase. The device’s performance, he adds, did not reflect that first impression.

His verdict is measured. The BV6 is not a perfect ten, he writes, but it is a great buy for parents of young kids, or even pets, and makes a stellar baby shower gift for expectant family and friends. The article carries a disclosure that products are chosen independently by editors and that purchases made through links may earn a commission.

For families across the region weighing a backseat camera against the habit of turning around at a red light, the review offers one more data point. Watch for whether Babyvue addresses the monitor’s cable clutter and the camera’s charging gap in a future version.
