HOD HASHARON, September 22 — Valens Semiconductor has signed a collaboration agreement with onsemi to develop a cost-optimized integrated sensor for high-volume 3-megapixel automotive camera applications, the Israeli connectivity chipset specialist announced Tuesday. The work will be built on MIPI A-PHY, the automotive industry’s first standard for high-speed sensor connectivity. Under the agreement, Valens will work with onsemi on a cost-optimized A-PHY offering that can be integrated into onsemi’s image sensors.

The two companies intend to give OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers a faster path to A-PHY adoption.

What the two companies bring

The collaboration aims to strengthen the A-PHY ecosystem by combining complementary expertise in connectivity and automotive imaging technologies. Valens, based in Hod Hasharon, is a provider of high-performance connectivity chipsets and is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker VLN. onsemi brings its position in automotive imaging to the table.

Yoram Salinger, CEO of Valens Semiconductor, called the collaboration “a major milestone for Valens, MIPI A-PHY and for the automotive ecosystem as a whole.” He said the integrated, cost-optimized 3MP offering complements Valens’ existing solutions and brings A-PHY to a broader range of use cases. Collaborating with onsemi, another major supplier of A-PHY silicon, strengthens the ecosystem and gives automakers supplier choice, he added.

Ahmed Salem, Vice President and General Manager of the Intelligent Sensing Group at onsemi, said the level of interest from OEM customers and partners makes clear that MIPI A-PHY represents a significant business opportunity. As automotive imaging systems grow in scale and sophistication, customers seek solutions that simplify design without compromising performance, he said. The collaboration helps enable a more streamlined camera architecture that reduces component count, supports industry standards, and makes advanced vision systems easier to deploy.

Why 3MP is the entry point

The majority of automotive image sensors target the 1-3MP range. As OEMs migrate toward higher resolutions, a 3MP offering addresses both a large established market and a growing upgrade opportunity, making it a relevant entry point for bringing A-PHY into mainstream, high-volume vehicles. Valens is a leader in MIPI A-PHY, offering the first chipsets on the market to comply with the standard and the first to achieve design wins with multiple OEMs.

The announcement was made via PRNewswire on September 22, 2026, at 06:30 ET. No financial terms of the collaboration were disclosed.

The detail that matters for Tier 1s and OEMs is integration: an A-PHY block folded into an image sensor removes a discrete component from the camera module and, with it, board space and bill-of-materials cost. Watch for the first silicon and for which vehicle programmes adopt it.
