Okta expands ecosystem to secure AI agent connections

San Francisco, June 23 — Okta Inc., an identity and access management company, announced that more than 25 software makers have signed on to its Cross App Access framework, which routes the connections artificial intelligence agents make to enterprise applications through a company’s identity controls. This significant expansion of the Cross App Access ecosystem is a notable development in the field of artificial intelligence and access management.

The early adopters of Cross App Access include a range of prominent companies such as Asana Inc., Atlassian Corp., Cloudflare Inc., Datadog Inc., Salesforce Inc.’s Slack, Zoom Communications Inc., and Anthropic PBC’s Claude. These integrations span a wide range of tools and applications, from those where employees start their work to the applications that hold corporate data and the developer infrastructure that routes agent traffic.

A significant number of other companies have also joined the Cross App Access framework, including Canva Pty Ltd, Docker Inc., Figma Inc., Linear Orbit Inc., Supabase Inc., and developer tools Anysphere Inc.’s Cursor and Microsoft Corp.’s Visual Studio Code. This diverse group of partners highlights the growing recognition of the need for secure and managed access to enterprise applications by artificial intelligence agents. Okta introduced Cross App Access, or XAA, in June 2025 as a way to govern agent-to-app and app-to-app connections.

The framework is built as an extension of OAuth and now serves as an official authorization extension for the Model Context Protocol, the standard that connects AI models to outside data and tools. This development addresses a problem that has grown alongside agent adoption, where most agent connections still depend on static application programming interface keys and user consent screens that administrators never see.

The issue with static API keys and user consent screens is that they leave permanent standing privileges and blind spots, forcing information technology teams to either accept unmanaged risk or slow agent rollouts. Cross App Access is positioned as an open, vendor-neutral protocol that lets identity policy follow an agent as it moves between applications, providing a more secure and managed approach to access management. Okta groups the partners into three roles, highlighting the different ways in which companies are engaging with the Cross App Access framework.

This expansion of the Cross App Access ecosystem is an encouraging development, as it suggests that a growing number of companies are recognizing the need for secure and managed access to enterprise applications by artificial intelligence agents. As the use of artificial intelligence agents continues to grow, the need for secure and managed access to enterprise applications will become increasingly important.

Patients should be aware of the potential risks and benefits of this technology, and talk to their doctor or IT administrator about how it may impact their work or personal life. The encouraging part of this development is that it highlights the growing recognition of the need for secure and managed access to enterprise applications, and the potential for this technology to improve the way we work and interact with artificial intelligence agents.

Early findings suggest that this approach can provide a more secure and managed approach to access management, and it will be interesting to see how this technology continues to evolve in the coming months. As always, it is essential to consult your doctor or IT administrator for specific advice on how to navigate this emerging technology.
